It is just 3 simple steps to my colour mixing no fail recipe.

Before you start: Remember all colours MUST be mixed with white preferably Titanium White

Look at the colour you are wanting to mix. eg.

Is it a tertiary colour? Does it have a greyishness to it? Is there a dullness to the colour? If so it means that the colour mixing at some stage will have to have a complementary colour added to it.  [ If the colour is a violet it will need a yellow added to grey it off.  If it is blue it will need an orange added to the blue to grey the blue off etc]

This is where a colour wheel comes in handy.

Here is the No Fail Mixing Recipe

STEP 1:   WHAT PRIMARY COLOUR FAMILY IS IT?                RED?    BLUE?    or YELLOW?

STEP 2:  WHAT TEMPERATURE IS IT?                                     HOT?  WARM?  COOL?, or  COLD?

STEP 3:  WHAT TONE IS IT?                                                            TONE 1 –  TONE 9

Method for Mixing

Mix the colour asking yourself the above three questions
Reassess the colour you have mixed and ask yourself what else it needs
Mix to the side of your colour patch and reassess again this time asking yourself
Is it the correct tone?
Is it the correct temperature?
What other colour may it need?
Does it need greying off with a complementary colour?
Continue mixing to the side of your patch until you attain the EXACT colour as that which you are trying to copy.

NB!!! The idea behind this methodology is that with practice you will able to QUICKLY mix the exact color you want and not waste a lot of precious painting time and paint.
